Hiatus~

Hey, just a heads up that I might be on hiatus these weeks before/after Christmas.
Just so you know that I'm still alive :)

Paris

This weekend, a tragedy occured in Paris.

ISIS had bombed the city. Over 120 people died. 

This is the second time in a year that Paris had been attacked.

It is an tragic reminder that there are other people in this world that do not care for others.
People have lost wives, husbands, lovers, family, friends, in this terrible event.

I express my deepest sorrow to them, and to Paris.

Though hope can be forgotten, it can never be lost ~Fem

No Need for Bushido - Web Comic

So recently I was browsing around Flight Rising, and I accidentally clicked on an advertisment. FR has alot of web comic ads around, and this was no exception.
It's called No Need for Bushido, and I actually really like this one. I'd explain the plot and characters and everything, but there's like 620 pages, and it's quite complicated. But they've made an intro about that here.

Cho's my favourite character (his Cho-isms though), and he's the blind monk with the pointy hat (also the person in the backgrounds of the above panel).

Blog Changes~

I decided to update the mouse pointer to a snowflake, and add light blue 'snow' to fall from it. If you can't really see the snow, move it to the side (or an area that's dark) and wave your cursor around. I also decided to keep the background that way, but might change it. Animal Jam Scammer Watch: Well, I think it's time...



Do you know who firetigerx is? I didn't, until I joined AJSWS. But you should know her. She deserves to be known.

She is the one who kickstarted the anti-scamming campaigns, who has been catching scammers since 2011 (4 years ago).

She, like every other scam catcher, deserves to be known. She is probably the most well-known scam catcher of all.

But she is retiring now, at age 18. I understand how she feels to be playing a 'kid's game'.

The 10 Dollar Thought Experiment

This might be an interesting name for an experiment. Who knows? Anyways, if you want a little preview, here's how it started:

I came up with it later than you might think. Yesterday, in fact. Since my school has plenty of shops around it, a cafeteria, and other places to goad you into -I mean worthwhile- to spend your money at, my parents decided to hand me some money to 'put to good use' (translation: spend it on food. Hey, they have good food there!). My parents aren't the allowance type; rarely do I have money to spend. My mom handed me 10 dollars, decreeing that I better not spend all of it by the end of the month.

So this led me thinking: do people spend more money if it is in 1 bill (10 dollar bill), or in loose change (coins, etc)? Or does it even matter?

Just a bit of food for thought.

It's a really beautiful animation, and the background music is perfect.

My interpretation of it (I know someone already posted something like this, but this is my version)

The small dragon (assuming it's female) is still a child, and the butterfly represents time, or experiences. The mother wakes up and watches the child, but she doesn't spend time to play with her, or enjoy the time they have left before the child turns into an adult. When the child follows the butterfly to the cliff, it turns into a dragon on the other side, representing an adult. The child is unsure of the transition between childhood and adulthood, and when she jumps and falls, that could represent the rocky time in-between. The dragon rescues her, and gives her a mask to make. When the child puts a paw on the mask, and draws on it, it could mean 'looking through the world with new eyes'. The child then returns to the mother, 'grown up', and gives her a mask as well. The mask could mean that the child wants her mother to look through the world as she does, but the mother doesn't realize that the child has 'grown up'. The child then turns into the butterfly dragon (representing an adult), and flies away, while the mother looks on, regretting the time that they haven't spent together.

Graystripe x Silverstream

Graystripe x Silverstream is one of my favourite Warrior Cat couples; unfortuantely, it ends in tragedy.
Graystripe belongs to Thunderclan, while Silverstream is in Riverclan. Relationships between clans are forbidden, but they still try to stay together. However, Silverstream dies when she gives birth to their kits.
This video almost made me cry;

It's a sad video (the voice acting though!) but it's quite beautiful as well.
Anyways, it made me think of this song: Stay With Me By: Danity Kane

It's perfect for them ;-; I'll try to make an animation about them when I can (learn how to animate, and do it correctly), but that will probably take some years from now.

Happy Autumn Equinox!

As you might know, this year, September 23 is the Autumn Equinox. The Equinox is when all of the world equally gets 12 hours of day and night, due to revelation around the Sun (which I just learned in my Socials class, plus a whole bunch of other stuff about mapping). In other words, today is the last day of summer, but tomorrow is the first day of autumn. Something to celebrate, I guess, but other than that, just a random little fact.

 Animal Jam

Lynxes are here! To be honest though, they look like cubs. I would prefer them to have the same lengthened shape as snow leopards. Oh, well, you gotta make with what you have. They're also member, available in the Diamond Shop for 10 diamonds. I would really wish for one member animal to be turned non-member, because there hasn't been one, in, 4 years?! Sea turtles were released in 2011, so.............................. *silence*. Also, Summer Carnival is leaving! Everything's at discount price, and I haven't been to it, so I guess I'd better hurry up.

Flight Rising


Peregine Gene is here, along with new level 8 recipies with Baldwin! I'm really excited for Starfall Celebration. If I wasn't in Light Flight, I would've chosen Arcane. I'm half/half, a dreamer, logical, philosophical, loves the allure mysterious things, imaginative, and  unbiased. If I could've joined another flight, I would've done it. See what flight you're in here!
Personally, I think Arcane's Realm is the most beautiful. Starwood Strand is... gorgeous. I'm going to make a new skin for the celebration. I would make an accent as well, provided I know how much 60% is on the screen :P

Updates on the World According to Fem!

Since my posts are being randomized by random things, I decided to update this blog again :)
These updates are...... *drum roll please* To-Be-Annouced Tuesday, World Wednesday, Thought Thursday, Fact Friday, and Smile Sunday (I have no idea what to do for Monday ;-; )

I bet you're all thinking, what the heck is this? Well, from now on, everyday (except for Saturday and maybe Monday) will have a little tibit of intresting-ness. And they follow exactly what the labels read.

To-Be-Annouced Tuesday: Basically update day, and anything to-be-annouced.

World Wednesday: Follow-up on the International News; anything big or small, whatever catches my attention most. Discuss them in the comments!

Philosphy of Scamming

It seems that, in every server, there is a scammer. The question is, why would they take away the most precious element, trust, for a mere pixels?

If you look in the dictionary, scam is defined as ‘a dishonest plan, usually to get money.’ However, in Animal Jam, it would be defined as a ‘dishonest plan to get rares or betas’. The words ‘scamming’ and ‘scammer’ stem from that word. We define ‘scamming’ as a verb ‘to carry out the dishonest plan (scam)’ and ‘scammer’ as ‘the person who carries out the dishonest plan ‘scam’. 

Now that we have clearly defined the meanings, we can get on to the ‘why’ part.

Why do they scam? I speculate the reason is because of greed. They want the rares/betas for themselves. Let’s face it, all humans are selfish. We all want the best for ourselves, and if we see something that some else has, we get envious. Envy is defined as ‘feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc’. The feeling can have a positive or negative affect on your actions.

The positive and negative effect comes from motivation. Motivation drives you forward to achieve what you want. However, this leads to a fork in the path. You can either work hard and honestly to achieve that dream item, or you can cheat and deceive others. After all, they all have the same result in the end, right? Wrong. Though you have the same item, the feelings you create/have are different. If you work hard for the item, and you finally get it, you feel exhilarated. You feel like you’ve climbed the highest mountain and made it all the way to the tippy top. You feel like all the hard work has paid off, all the setbacks you have encountered were worth it.

But if you got the item dishonestly, you will not feel the emotions I have described. Sure, you might feel happy about it, but you do not experience your work being paid off, and guilt is still lurking in the corner. Scammers think that this way is a ‘short cut’ up the mountain. But this ‘short cut’ is filled with brambles, thorns, steep cliffs, and most importantly, guilt.

We humans have many feelings, and guilt is one of them. However, guilt and shame are different (to make this clear, here are 2 sentences I have found that define them; ‘I feel shame for who I am’ and ‘I feel guilt for what I did’. Everyone has felt guilt in their lives, whether it is stealing candy from the candy jar, watching TV when you’re not supposed to, etc. But wait! Isn’t Animal Jam a virtual world? Virtual worlds simply don’t exist in real life! So why do all those scammers break someone’s heart for those meager pixels? Haven’t they heard that trust is easy to take, but near impossible to gain (that rhymes)? That’s one great mystery there. I don’t think having the most rare item on AJ get you straight A’s on your report card, or land you a job. This sounds illogical here. But to be fair, let’s try to think of it from the scammers’ point of view.

To them, having the rarest item is EVERYTHING. They probably think of it all day and night, fascinated by the dreams they think they will achieve. I know y’all viewers are thinking, ‘why don’t they use the darn trading system like everyone else?! It’s there for a reason!’ Heh, at this point I’ll have a barrage of scammers exclaiming things like, ‘I don’t have the betas/rares to trade for it!’ etc, but that is NO excuse for cheating someone out like that. Everyone else can get by with the trading system, so why can’t they? Well, to be blunt, scammers are ‘addicted’ to Animal Jam. It’s not like a drug addiction, but it’s almost the same. Your dreams are enraptured by the game, and your senses are snared in. It’s like you’re glued to the computer, unable to leave, because, oh look, a wolf party is coming on in a hour! How about I stay awhile? I know there are others who are also ‘addicted’ to Animal Jam but they aren’t like scammers. Because the scammers know they are doing the wrong thing, but they can’t help it. Almost like their self-control flew out the window, and thoughts of betas flew in.

After all of that talk, I have thought about the reasons of why scammers scam.

1.    Popularity/Media. 

Look at all those famous jammers out there, Snowyclaw, Wolffeycat, Wootmoo, Wisteriamoon, Libertyy, Julian2, etc. They’re all wearing the coolest/rarest items on Animal Jam. Adorned in spikes, worns, and betas, they are the role models for the other jammers that wish to be famous. One might think that having the rarest items might not get you the most viewers, but that is not always the case. Other players look up to them and try to be like them. As they say, ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’. Having good blogs and excellent videos can make you popular, but since all of the ‘famous’ players have betas and rares, this implies the fact that ‘to be popular, you must have tons of rares’.

2.    Pressure

This is also like the media factor. Your (online, not real life) friends are wearing rares and betas, and you’re left wearing the common items. You feel uncomfortable as you sit down to chat with them in Jamaa Township. I don’t fit in with them, you think as you admire their spikes and headdresses. What can I do? I don’t have rare enough items to trade for one of those headdresses… although… you let your eyes wander over the screen. A player catches your eye, and they are wearing a spike. “Trust me for this spike! I don’t accept!” The wolf sings, and immediately, the yellow trading symbol hangs over his head. Curious, you wait and watch. After a few more minutes, you see the wolf chanting, “Last 10 seconds! Miss Prettylily is winning!” Glancing over to the tiger named Miss Prettylily, you notice that she isn’t wearing much items, only a head flower and a couple of Rare Item Monday rares. A few achievements are plastered on her player card. Interesting… Suddenly, your attention is jerked away by an artic wolf. She is sobbing, crying: “Scammer! He scammed me of my rare purple headdress and worn!” An idea begins creep into your mind, a twinge of guilt as it begins to develop. You try to brush away the guilt, thinking, it's for the best, right? At least I can fit in…

I don't think I need to extend the rest of the scenario for you to know what’s going to happen.

3.    Enraptured

These are the types of scammers who are the scariest, in my opinion. They scam for the pure enjoyment of it. They enjoy cheating others out of their items, delighting in being ‘smarter than them’. One might say these scammers are heartless, or to be blunt, psychopaths (psychopaths are people who can’t feel emotion, but I’m sure there aren’t a lot of people like that in the word, or on AJ for that matter).

To conclude what I’ve just written in a simpler format, I shall use an analogy:

AJ – real world

Scammers – thieves

Rares/betas – gold/money/gems

AJHQ – police

Jammers – people/citizens

SWS and other scam-catching agencies/individuals – volunteer police

Before, the thieves were just ordinary people. But they were driven by greed to get gold/money/gems, so they devised a plan, a scam. Since the police aren’t patrolling 24/7, the thieves take advantage and begin to grow bolder, stealing in ‘broad daylight’ (<- advertising publicly). Many citizens notice this, and since the police don’t really care/have time, they begin to form volunteer police societies/officers. But because the volunteer police do not have the ‘legal right’ to send the thieves to jail, they can only create awareness. And because the thieves are aware that only the official police can stop them, they think that the volunteer police are not a threat. What they don’t realize is, education/awareness is a very powerful factor. The more the citizens are alerted to these thieves, the less valuables will be stolen.

I can conclude this post in many ways, but I have chosen a rhyme and a quote to end this. Before I do that, I would like your feedback, questions or comments on this post.

Sorry about that lack of posting; anyways, FR's Thundercrack Carnivale has ended! Too bad I didn't get those Lightening Sprockets. Also, CS's Summer Event will be ending... in two days. Apparently the rarity of the alicorn dropped, because alot of people were getting them on their 2nd try! Nothing else to report about, except I'm getting braces tomorrow. Ugh. I heard that it hurts alot, and you aren't allowed to eat chips and stuff. Imagine 2 years (well, a year and a half) without chips!

I'm back~

Well, not really back, considering I haven't posted for... 10 days? Meh. I was  volunteer at a day camp 2 weeks ago, for 2 weeks. Then on Wednesday and Thursday my family + my parents' friend's family went to Osoyoos for 2 days. I'll update you guys on that as soon as I can get the pictures of my trip online. Anyways, the day camp was... okay. We had sandwiches for lunch every day, and we get to go to parks and such. Apart from me becoming half-deaf because of screaming, it was a nice place. Sorry for the short post-longer one once I get those pics!

Scammer Proof Yourself

First of all, let’s discuss the methods of scamming.

Trusting ~ Common ~ Harms about 90% ~

Trust trading often goes like this. The scammer is wearing a good item, like a spike, and they have a cheap store-bought item on their trade.

Dialogue:

1- Scammer: “Trust me for this_______! I won’t accept!11!!11111111”

2 -Jammer (thinks): Ooooooooooooh I really want that spike. Besides a lot of OTHER jammers are doing it and THEY don’t get scammed, so I should too! (trades really good items)

3- S: (cancels trade) Seeeeeeeeee, I didn’t accept, so you should trust me!!11111!!!!

4 -J (thinks): They didn’t cancel! This must be for real! (sends even better items)

5 S: (cancels again) Come on, ________ is winning with _______ items!!! Giveaway ends in 1 minute!

6- J ( thinks): Oh no!!!!!! I really want that ______! I should just go for it! (sends all of their good items)

7- S: (accepts and runs away)

8 -J: What?! They tricked me! Scammer!!!!!!!!!

What you SHOULD’VE DONE:

Red Flag:

Instead of having the actual item, they have a cheap store-bought one.

Reason:

It’s because they weren’t really meaning to give ______ away, they just wanted more. If they lose the store-bought item, it doesn’t matter, because they have more GOOD items to replace it.

WATCH OUT FOR THESE TRICKS:

1.       OTHER ‘USER’: To make their ‘giveaway’ seem more real, the scammer will usually be operating another account that is ‘trusting’ them. This way, they let you think that because the other ‘user’ isn’t getting scammed, you won’t be too. BEWARE! THEY WILL SCAM YOU!

2.       TRUST IS CRUST: To make you give them all of your good items, they will NOT accept your first trades. Because of this, you will think that they will not accept the rest of your trades. HOWEVER, once you give it all you’ve got, the scammers will press the accept button and run away, leaving you in the dust.

3.       PEER PRESSURE: Often the scammers will say something like:”Only 1 minute / 10 seconds / etc until giveaway ends!” This will make you frantic, because you REALLY want the item. So, in order to ‘get’ it, you will give it all you’ve got and send your best items. Soon enough, a click and it’s gone, no prize, no items.

Gifting ~ Common ~ Harms about 85%~

Gift-scamming is also quite common. It often goes like this.

Method 1~ The scammer will be in a crowded place, saying things like:”Gift me, it’s my birthday!” or “Gift me so I can give the items to my BF!” or “Gift me, if I get 10 spikes then my bff who has cancer will get better!” etc. Some of these might be true (except the last one), but most of them are lying. They want to take advantage of your gratitude for THEIR BENEFIT.

Method 2~: Dialogue

Scammer:”Gift me _____ and I’ll gift you a ________(insert good item[s])!!!!!!! Not a scam!!!!!!!111111!111”

First Jammer: “Ooooooooh I don’t think they’re lying! I’m going to send them it!”

Second Jammer:” Why not use the trading system?!”

S: “My trading system is broken…/it doesn’t work.”

1J and 2J: “Oh, okay……” (gifts scammer)

S: (runs away)

1J and 2J: (sad face)

What you SHOULD’VE DONE:

Red Flag:

Why don’t they use the trading system?

Reason:

They wanted you to gift them. That way, there’s no risk of losing the item, and the benefit of getting one.

WATCH OUT FOR THESE TRICKS:

1.       GUILT-TRIPPING; Scammers will say things like:”You’re mean”or “I’m quitting because of you” or “I’m reporting you to AJHQ”. They want to pressure you to make you feel bad for them. No one wants to be bad, right (except for them scammers)? Once you do gift, they’re flying away.

2.       PEER PRESSURE: Often the scammers will say something like:”Only 1 minute / 10 seconds / etc until giveaway ends!” This will make you frantic, because you REALLY want the item. So, in order to ‘get’ it, you will give it all you’ve got and send your best items. Soon enough, a click and it’s gone, no prize, no items.

Double-User ~ Rare (I’ve seen it only once) ~ Harm: ?

Double-user scamming often requires 2 accounts, or 2 actual scamming buddies.

Dialogue:

First Scammer: I will trade _____(insert good item) for _______(insert item that is in a holiday store, or an item that is not in-store but still common)!

Second Scammer: I have __________(insert the same common not-in-store item)!

Jammer: (thinks) Wow, what a bargain! I’m going to trade 2S!

2S (rejects every trade): “Only trading good items for that!”

1S: “Uh oh, I have to go in ______minutes!”

J: (trades good items): “There!”

1S and 2S runs away/logs off

J: (sad face)

What you SHOULD’VE DONE

Red Flag:

Is it just a coincidence that one has the same item, and the other wants it? Why don’t they just trade each other?

This is all part of their evil plan.

WATCH OUT FOR THESE TRICKS:

1.   PRESSURE PACT: Often the scammers will say something like:”Only 1 minute / 10 seconds / etc until giveaway ends!” This will make you frantic, because you REALLY want the item. So, in order to ‘get’ it, you will give it all you’ve got and send your best items. Soon enough, a click and it’s gone, no prize, no items.

2.       NO TRADE: The scammers won’t trade each other. Why? It's because they want YOU to trade them, so they'll get your items.

TRICKS SCAMMERS WILL USE TO GET YOU CONFUSED

1.       Guilt-tripping - Say things like, 'You're mean', 'Bully!', '(cries, sad face)', dialogues and actions that  make you pity them.

2.       Peer pressure - Putting limits on things. For example, they say that someone's winning and you only have a few seconds left. If you really want the item, then you'll begin to feel worried, so you'll try your best to send all your good items.

3.       Blaming the fault on you. [Ex. Once, I was at a fake giveaway. The user was asking everyone to trust, and I was running around saying: ‘DON’T DO IT! IT’S A SCAM!1!!!!!!!111!” Finally some people were SMART ENOUGH to realize it was fake. So before locking his den (apparently locking dens is their safety net; always get their username before that!), he said:"Thanks to Fauna (that's me) for making me lock the den. " Like, seriously. -_-]’

4.       Not answering your questions. [Ex. Once, a scammer was doing the giveaway scam, and I was asking:”Why not use the trading system? That’s what it’s for1” and they were like: “Cause it’s broken.” I asked:”Then why don’t you tell AJHQ?” They started ignoring me, and then started insulting and swearing at me when I kept asking (there's always someone there to call me b****; I've gotten used to it now. Sometimes they know they're wrong, but will do ANYTHING to prove they're right. -_-)

I don't know what to title this post, so here you are, with this random title. Actually, I'm going to make the title 'Flight Rising'. No, wait, there's other stuff. Well, here's your extremely long title then

I just joined Flight Rising on Saturday, June 13 (or June something, forgot what date). It's a pretty cool site; you can raise dragons, breed them, battle with them, gather food and items and overall, it is plain awesome. The regestration closed 'cause apparently the server was overloaded XD. Anyways, it's the Brightshine Julibee right now (June 21-27) which is hosted by my clan (Light Clan). It's so cool! I have the new Sunbeam Soldier familar on my coatl dragon now. I haven't named that dragon yet, but I can't find a name that's worthy of her. She's given to me by my friend irl, who wrote a fantastic bio about her. Click on thy link down below to read it:

Welcome to this blog! You can call me Fem (though it's not my real name :P). I'm a girl who enjoys digital... stuff. Like painting (note; my artwork will be posted on here.Also,don't use MS Paint. It is terrible. [I have to use it 'cause my parents won't allow me to download another program. But anyways,I'm getting off-topic.], and games. Possibly books too, but I prefer the old-fashioned written-out copy.
I guess I can't give out too much personal info, because of stalkers and what-not. So, I guess this what you need to know (or want to know. Or don't need to know. Or whatever.)
I live in; the Universe, Milky Way Galaxy, the Solar System, Earth, North America, Canada, British Columbia.
I grew up and was born in China, but I moved to Canada when I was 6. My English is much improved (I love using fancy words fyi, like.... uh.... elaborate? I can't think of one now.) Can't tell you my age, sorry, but I guess I can tell you that I'm in Grade 8 now (meaning 'now' as I'm typing.)
My personality is sort of unique. By that I mean, I'm the shy girl around strangers and classmates, but I am actually not that shy, once I know you (once you become my friend). I don't use swear words, and I am quite polite. I guess you can call me 'intelligent' because I get good grades and all (not to brag or anything >.<).
I can speak English, Chinese, and would LOVE to be fluent en francais (in French, for those of you who don't know).No, seriously, I absolutely ADORE speaking in French. The way to words click together, the flow and rhythm.... Chinese... well I can speak, read and write it, but my grammer is bad. Like, I'm so used to English grammer that it just... slips in.
My hobbies are somewhat stereotypical-reading, writing, and drawing. I guess gaming too, but I'm not a hardcore gamer. I'm currently writing a story (will post it later sometime).
I don't have much time on the computer, so I won't be very active (sorry about that!).
I play Animal Jam (not any more, too much scammers, hackers, bullies and snobs on there), Transformice (LOVE that game :D) and Chicken Smoothie (quite active since it doesn't require a computer).My username is ' feming ' for all of them, in case you want to chat.
